Buying A Mattress At Macy's
A key benefit of buying your mattress from a mattress store is that you get to try the mattress before you make your purchase. You can lie down on it, bounce on it, roll around on it, and find your best sleeping position before deciding that it's the right mattress for you.

When shopping online, you make your choice based on photos or information presented by the mattress retailer and by reading online mattress reviews. Some mattresses, like Purple, can be ordered online and also found in mattress or furniture stores, so you can try them out firsthand. If you're the type of person that needs to see a mattress in person before buying, Purple gives you this option by partnering with select mattress stores.
If you're not sure what you're looking for in a new mattress, visiting a mattress store can be a great place to start. With knowledgeable sales representatives at your disposal, you can talk to experts and allow them to steer you toward the options that will best meet your needs. But if you'd rather find information on your own, then you might prefer to do some online research and read mattress reviews to figure out what's most important to you.
You will have the same 120-night sleep trial, and if you return the mattress within this time, you will be offered a full return of store credit. For an exchange, shipping will be free-of-cost, and shipping fees will not be returned unless the error is on their behalf.
However, this mattress removal fee does not apply to customers located in the state of California. Instead, California, Connecticut, and Rhode Island customers will have to pay for the mattress recycling fee, which will be in the mattress order.
Just like all other optional services, this service is not free of cost. In addition to the purchase price of your mattress and its shipping cost, you will have to pay upfront an additional fee of USD 125. There will be an extra cost of USD 75 if the mattress is delivered to your room.
Your returned mattress will still find a good home with someone who needs and wants it. In most cases, when state law allows it, returned mattresses are donated to charities like the Salvation Army, women resource centers, or homeless shelters. When donations are not allowed, the discarded mattresses are disassembled and cut up for other products like carpet padding, roofing material, or gymnastic mat foam inserts.
How can you tell if your mattress has already been bought, used, and returned by another customer? While there are laws in some states that restrict the resale of pre-owned mattresses, some deceptive mattress companies will try to get around the rules. And in some states, there are very loose regulations of the bedding industry, so consumers in those states are left with few protections from shady vendors.
Among ten of our favorite direct-to-consumer mattress companies, not one resells returned mattresses and all either donate their returns to charities or non-profit organizations, or they recycle them. If you buy a mattress from one of these companies, you will know that your mattress has never been slept on, and in the unlikely event that you are unsatisfied, your mattress will be donated to someone in your community who really needs and wants it.
Details: You can return your mattress after 21 days. Then they will retrieve it from your home and will donate it to a charity in your location, or you can choose your favorite local charity.
Details: If you are not satisfied with your Leesa mattress, Leesa will arrange for a pick-up at your home and deliver it to a local non-profit organization or other charity. They ask for a $49 return fee to cover the cost of pick-up and delivery to people in need.
Details: Returns can be made after at least 30 days from delivery, and there are no fees. They will send a truck to deliver your mattress to a local charity. You will receive a full refund after you show them the donation receipt.
While the myths listed below will help you better understand the mattress shopping experience, it is also important to note that not all mattress retail stores are created equally. Amerisleep has reinvented the mattress shopping experience with unique interactive displays, informative videos, and expert sales staff.
There are three types of mattresses to choose from at Amerisleep, from their classic memory foam mattresses to their newer latex and hybrid mattresses. Material type can affect how a mattress feels under the body, as can other considerations like synthetic sensitivity or wool or latex allergies.
When shopping with Amerisleep, you can bundle your mattress with one of their adjustable bases and save up to $1500. They also offer high-quality bedding and mattress accessories to make your sleep space even more comfortable.
More than likely, customers shortcut test time, and spend 20 minutes total with all mattresses. Even if you diligently wait out the full duration, studies show that you are still pretty terrible at picking out the best bed in a showroom setting.
The independent, non-profit research group, RTI let participants select their top choice of seven beds in a showroom setting (think like all Mattress Firm locations), then gave them each one to try for one month. The participants did not know which bed they initially chose, and the mattresses arrived in a random order.
In a perfect world, it would be better to test a new mattress in the privacy of your own home for several weeks. If the showroom does not offer an in-home trial period, plenty of online dealers do so, with hassle-free refunds and exchanges. Mattress Firm and others may offer just a couple of weeks, and charge return fees.
If you feel sales pressure, your best bet is always walking out of the store. When you are ready to make a decision on your terms, there will still be a mattress for sale there. Or use their high-pressure sales tactics to get yourself a bargain. Set your own price and walk away if it exceeds your budget. Online sellers tend to have less markup, but may offer additional perks, too.
Often, mattress manufacturers create exclusivity deals with each store. This may involve changing the name of the series and minor features for different stores. For example, the Serta Perfect Sleeper will have different names at all Mattress Firm locations.
When you receive your new mattresses, it likely will feel harder than the one you felt in the showroom. Many customers test the showroom model often over a span of months, letting it break in and softening it up a little. Your new bed will become softer and more pliable over time, but you may have to wait a few months.
The firmness also depends on temperature, especially with traditional memory foam. If you notice that the mattress showroom feels warmer than your house, the mattress may feel softer than it will at home.
The moral of the story: Testing the mattress at home over the course of a few months proves best. Look for a retailer that gives a minimum of 30 days to return or exchange with minimal fees.
Our authors have undergone sleep coach training from the Spencer Institute, becoming certified after immersing themselves in different aspects of sleep science. Understanding how we sleep means we understand better how a mattress, pillow, or other product can help us sleep better.
In our last two group tests, staffers consistently placed the Leesa Hybrid at or near the top of their lists of favorite foam and hybrid mattresses. Its foam layers offer a good balance of pressure-point relief and support, while its innerspring layer provides a subtle bounce. We recommend this mattress for back-, stomach-, and side-sleepers, as well as for people who weigh over 200 pounds. It comes with a 100-day trial period and a 10-year warranty.
How it feels: This medium-firm mattress offers a loose hug and a touch of bounciness. I found it to be on the medium side of medium-firm, but soft-mattress lovers found it to be quite firm, which made side-sleeping difficult.
In our 2019 blind test, 35 people sampled four hybrid mattresses, and 21 of them chose the Leesa Hybrid as a favorite or runner-up; this was just shy of the 22 who picked the Tempur-Adapt (Medium Hybrid), and considerably more than the 16 votes for the Casper Hybrid and the 11 votes for the Casper Wave Hybrid. In early 2020, during an additional test for our foam and hybrid mattress guide, we compared the Leesa Hybrid to the Tempur-Adapt, the Helix Plus, and the BedInABox Dual Hybrid. The Leesa landed at the top of the list again, with 21 out of 29 testers choosing it as their favorite or second favorite in the category.
The top layer is a 2-inch polyurethane foam, followed by the same thickness of memory foam. A polyurethane-foam base lies at the bottom. The foam densities are typical of under-$1,000 mattresses (3, 3, and 1.8 pounds per cubic foot, respectively). We think these should last for the long term for people who weigh less than 200 pounds, or if the bed is used infrequently. A staffer who has kept this mattress in a guest bedroom for the past three years told us it has held up well. It typically gets slept in for about a week each month, he said, and so far it has shown no signs of sagging or indentations.
The experts we interviewed for our mattress-buying guide said that to avoid having problems with mattress durability, people who weigh more than 200 pounds should look for memory-foam densities of at least 4 pounds per cubic foot. Some examples include the Leesa Hybrid, the Tempur-Adapt (Medium Hybrid), or the Loom & Leaf. To cut the risk of body impressions, no matter your weight, you should diligently rotate your mattress at least every six months, and try to sleep all over the mattress when possible.
What we like: The Legend has a sturdy feel. It balances the cradling sensation of foam with the buoyancy of coils. And though the bed may feel a bit stiff out of the box, it will gradually become more cuddly and more like a true medium-firm mattress. (Interestingly, when we tried the bed briefly in a showroom more than a year ago, it felt considerably softer than the model we slept on at home, presumably because many others had sampled it.) 041b061a72
