It consists of about 50,000 drawings and more than two million prints. Together, they chart the development of the graphic arts in Europe from the 1400s to the present day, and their spread to the Americas and Australia.

The collection includes outstanding holdings by the greatest graphic artists, such as Dürer, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Hogarth, Goya, Kollwitz and Picasso. And there are major collections of historical, satirical and topographical prints, trade and visiting cards, fans and playing cards.

The British Museum's collection of Western prints and drawings can be traced back to Sir Hans Sloane, whose wide-ranging holdings included an album of drawings by the German Renaissance master, Albrecht Dürer.

In 1835, the Museum bought John Sheepshanks' collection of Dutch and Flemish prints and drawings. This marked the start of our ambition to collect graphic holdings charting the development and spread of the graphic arts from the 1400s to the present.

How can artists sell art and paintings online? How will they market themselves? Making a living as a career artist means understanding how to build an audience, how to price art products, and the unique requirements for shipping art. It means thinking like an entrepreneur.

For gallerists and curators, the shift in how we buy and sell in the past two decades has allowed these businesses to represent more artists and expand into selling affordable art prints online to reach larger audiences worldwide.

Best known by her artist moniker Hatecopy, Maria Qamar quit her advertising career to focus on art when her pop art paintings began to catch fire on Instagram. Now she works full time on her art, selling her own paintings in multiple formats, from art prints to books to printed merch.

Maria runs her own online shop, where she sells art prints and merchandise, eliminating the middleman and keeping her costs low. But she also leans on relationships with experienced galleries for exhibiting and selling original artwork.

Fine artists using classic mediums and selling at high price points may choose to only sell originals, for example, while digital art, which can be reproduced without loss of quality, is great for prints and merch. However, most art created in 2D mediums have multiple options for generating unlimited sales on a single work.

Your markup may be on a scale depending on whether you sell open- or limited-edition prints. Other expenses may include office supplies, software or app fees, professional services, studio rent, and more.

If you are shipping original art, or elect to ship prints and canvases yourself, rather than through a print and fulfillment company, take extra precaution with your packing. Larger prints and posters are best shipped in cardboard mailing tubes, and smaller prints in rigid cardboard mailing envelopes.

Use glassine (a water and grease-resistant paper) or clear cellophane sleeves to protect prints within the packaging. Custom branded packaging like tissue paper or poly envelopes that feature your branding or art can spark delight with customers and improve their experience with your brand.

This is a tricky question because art is very broad and subjective. Selling prints of your work can be very profitable because you can continue to generate income from a single piece. Lower price points (versus original art) mean you likely can sell more volume. Curators should follow trends in art and design to help understand what art collectors and potential buyers are buying, then work with artists that have high success potential. As a creator, you should lean into the style that you do best and build a following from there.

At Art.com, you can buy prints of famous works of art, discover new art, and even have your own photos printed and framed for you. You can search by artist if there's a particular artist you're looking for, or browse by subject.

Inkjet printers are the best for quality art prints, and choose the highest colour ink system you can, ideally (they start at 6 and run to a 10-colour process). There are dye-based ink printers and also pigment ink printers (the ideal) to consider too.

The best resolution for art prints is 300dpi, this is the same as a professional printer would need for magazines printing. The higher the 'dots per inch' the better the output and the smoother the finish.

First you will ideally be using Fine Art Paper, which will be called Giclee Printing, Rag Paper, Cotton Paper and so forth (but some will be trial and error and check your printer's depth of paper restrictions). With a good art printer this paper will work. One tip, always print as matt as a glossy print can hide any paint strokes and leave detail looking flat. Matt prints offer the same impression as a real watercolour or oil canvas.

The best art printers range from the affordable models that can be used in the home for many tasks to dedicated printers for artists that have been developed specifically for art prints and large projects. The best printers for artists offer everything from LCD screens and Wi-Fi support to roller feeds for gallery-quality prints on the best paper and specific art ink subscriptions.

For best results, you'll want the best printer for art prints capable of better colour reproduction and clarity than the average office printer. Ideally, it will use pigment-based inks, because dye-based inks don't look as good. You'll also want the option of printing in larger formats, and on heavier, fine art media.

Artists and graphic designers often need to print their work. Buying an art printer may seem like an expensive investment, but it will pay off over time. Artists regularly need to create high-quality prints that look impressive and professional. Owning a printer can be a cost-effective alternative to using printing services.

Professional inkjet printers are normally capable of producing prints with good resolution. The minimum is 600 x 600 DPI in black, while color can vary depending on the brand. Printers with this resolution cost more than a standard printer but are still affordable. 041b061a72
