I read on some portal that if TDS are not posted by due date by the agency deducting tax, they are to add interest in the credit of the tax payer even if it is for one day in a month or one day of each month, in which case it will be counted as two months interest.Is that true?If true, request what is it that we need to see to be able to follow up on this?I have had huge TDS made by SBI in December 2016 and till date they have not been credited to 26AS. The TDS from November was shown in 26AS end of Jan 2017. In 2014, another huge amount of arrears were received and the bank never informed for 6 weeks. There after, the TDS was not posted until May or perhaps June 2014. Inspite of repeated reminders, it was not done till I asked the bank to give me market rate of interest for the period they did not disclose arrears credited and the delay that was caused by the bank posting TDS be also made accountable as I culd file returns and get refund in time. This loss ran in lacs, not thousands. Are the banks made accountable anywhere?

Notice can only be issued by the Chief Commissioner or Commissioner is satisfied that income has escaped assessment. The amount of income which has escaped assessment should be more than Rs. 1,00,000. For AY 2017-18 notice under section 148 can be issued till 31st March 2024.


Notice under section 148 can be issued if income in relation to any asset (including financial interest in any entity) located outside India, is chargeable to tax in India but has escaped assessment. For AY 2017-18 notice under section 148 can be issued till 31st March 2034.
